The main objective of the Madeira Coastal Insight Service (MCIS) is to establish a comprehensive approach to coastal water quality monitoring by integrating cutting-edge technologies and methodologies for real-time, accurate data collection, fully aligned with EU policies and directives. The project seeks to ensure the sustainable management and protection of Madeira’s coastal waters, contribute to the achievement of EU objectives, and enhance environmental governance while supporting local capacity building. In addition, MCIS integrates local observations with high-resolution numerical models to generate both blue (physical) and green (biogeochemical) datasets.
