The CMU Portugal Program and Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) are launching, for the first time, a Call under the new initiative Affiliated Ph.D. Programs which offers up to 12 Scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year. The selected candidates will be hosted by Portuguese Universities and allow a research period of up to 1 year at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

You should apply to this call if you are looking for support from EIC Pathfinder Open to realize an ambitious vision for radically new technology, with the potential to create new markets and/or to address global challenges. The present call targets projects on low-carbon technologies and processes in all sectors covered by Directive 2003/87/EC (the EU ETS Directive): Innovation in low-carbon technologies and processes in sectors listed in Annex I, including environmentally safe carbon capture and utilization (‘CCU’) that contributes substantially to mitigating climate change, as well as products substituting carbon-intensive ones produced in sectors listed in Annex I, environmentally safe capture and geological storage (‘CCS’) of CO2, and innovative renewable energy and energy storage technologies.

Central objective of this call is to develop and implement the pilot(s) of the European Master of Science (MSc) programme(s) for High Performance Computing (HPC). The graduate education programme(s) will focus HPC and HPC-usage. Horizon Europe - Civil Security for Society Info Day

May 18-19, 2021

Participate in the first official event in the area of Civil Security for Society in Horizonte Europa. This event is organized by the network of NCPs SEREN4 in cooperation with the EU Commission and the Research Executive Agency (REA). Topics such as the first calls of Cluster 3, the rules for participation, and horizontal aspects will be covered, all presented by COM and REA. June 3-4, 2021

The All-Atlantic 2021 – All-Atlantic R&I for a Sustainable Ocean: Ministerial High-Level & Stakeholders Conference will take place under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in close cooperation with the European Commission, aiming to strengthen Research & Innovation cooperation across and along the Atlantic Ocean, from “pole to pole.”

By bringing together leading scientists, European policymakers, key players in ocean governance, and representatives of civil society, the event will nurture discussions at the frontier between science and technology, bridging scientific progress to policy actions and advances in ocean literacy.

The event is dedicated to private companies, including SMEs and large companies, public authorities and municipalities, industry and associations willing to develop innovative, sustainable technologies or research projects with a focus on smart cities.

This competition aims to create two large-scale scientific centers in two locations in East Germany and to increase the relevance and scientific transformation of the East of Germany, introducing new modes of cooperation between science and industry. More information here.

The challenge is to build a fully functional, bench-scale prototype of an artificial photosynthesis based system which is able to produce a useable synthetic fuel. Expected Impact: a number of innovative devices and systems demonstrating the use of sunlight to produce a fuel ready to be used.

Energy - This category recognises organisations that can demonstrate innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability solutions in the areas of energy that include, but are not limited to: ensuring access to affordable and reliable clean energy; increasing production of clean energy; improving energy efficiency; introducing new forms of clean energy or other technology innovations. Water - This category recognises organisations that can demonstrate innovative, impactful and inspirational sustainability solutions in the areas of water that include, but are not limited to: ensuring access to safe and affordable drinking water; ensuring access to sanitation and hygiene; increasing water use efficiency; improving water quality. Deadline: June 1, 2021

The challenge is to develop a European technologically non-dependent solution for launching light satellites into Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), which will enable dedicated low-cost launches with committed schedule and orbit. The solution needs to be innovative, implementable, affordable in development and exploitation phases, and commercially viable. Prize: 10M€.

The prize is awarded to the most talented women entrepreneurs from across the EU and countries associated to Horizon Europe, who have founded a successful company and brought innovation to market. In the ‘Women Innovators’ main category, three prizes of EUR 100 000 each are awarded to the women who, in the opinion of the jury, have excelled in all award criteria and stood out amongst the other applicants. In the second category, one prize of EUR 50 000 is awarded to a promising ‘Rising Innovator’ aged 30 or younger.

The European Capital of Innovation Awards will recognize the cities’ role as catalyzers of the local innovation ecosystem and will stimulate new activities aimed at boosting game-changing innovation.

The main objective of the prize is to develop an innovative solution that will allow tracking all commercial freight trains, from all railway undertakings, covering the whole European network. The aim is to provide real-time information about the train, accessible to all, including information on the location, departure, destination, composition, and punctuality.

LEAP-RE is a project funded by the Framework Programme Horizon 2020 (2020-2025) and a national contribution to the implementation to the "Roadmap on climate change and renewable energy” (HLPD Roadmap) contributing for the Joint Africa Europe Strategy. LEAP-RE is a partnership of 88 organisations, 44 from European countries and associated countries and 39 from African countries coordinated by LGI CONSULTING (LGI), France.


The 5th version - final draft (February 2021) of the Cluster 5 Work Program, WP2021-2022, has already been made available on the platform of the National Support Group for the Discussion of Horizonte Europa, as well as being available for public download here.
